UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) 2019 Research Scholarships


UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) is now accepting applications from researchers and education professionals from UNESCO Member States for its 2019 Research Scholarships. The deadline for submission of applications for the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) Research Scholarships is 30th April, 2019.

UIL Research Scholarships

In 2012, the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) launched a new initiative offering scholarships to researchers and education professionals from UNESCO Member States. Research Scholarships generally run every September, though under special circumstances, Scholarships may run in other months.

Since the UIL Research Scholarship programme was launched in 2012, a total of 52 scholars have taken part.

Research Scholarships are funded by private donations. To date, donations have been kindly made by:

  • the British educationalist Peter Jarvis and his publisher Taylor & Francis;
  • the Nomura Centre for Lifelong Integrated Education in Japan; and
  • the US educationalist Alexander Charters

Who Can Apply for UIL Research Scholarships?

Researchers and education professionals from UNESCO Member States who work in the area of lifelong learning with a focus on adult education and continuing education, literacy and non-formal basic education.

Participants are selected on the basis of their potential to produce:

  • policy proposals;
  • programme tools;
  • articles; and
  • research papers

that can be shared with decision-makers in their home countries.

UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) Research Scholarships Benefits.

  • Research Scholars conduct their research at the UIL Library for a period of one month.
  • In addition, they have the opportunity to exchange knowledge with other scholars, UIL staff and UIL’s external partners.
  • UIL covers travel and accommodation costs and contributes a lump sum towards the costs of food, visas, etc.

How to Apply for UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) Research Scholarships.

In order to apply, please submit the following:

  • A cover letter
  • Your research proposal (2–4 pages)
  • A concise and up-to-date CV
