The Essence of the Nigeria Prize for Literature

The Nigeria Prize for Literature, sponsored annually by Nigeria LNG, is dedicated to honouring the author of the best book by a Nigerian. Renowned for rotating among four literary genres – prose fiction, poetry, drama, and children’s literature – this year’s focus is on Children’s Literature. The winner of this prestigious award will receive a remarkable prize of USD100,000.00.

The Panel of Judges: A Blend of Experience and Esteem

To ensure the highest standards of judgment, the Advisory Board for Literature has appointed a panel of judges, reflecting the genre in competition for the year. These judges are distinguished by their vast experiences, peer recognition, good public image, and command respect both nationally and internationally.

Key Dates and Application Process

Qualified candidates are invited to submit their entries along with the application form to the Nigeria Prize for Literature’s office in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Alternatively, entries can be filled online here.

The winner(s) will be publicly announced and presented in October 2024, marking a significant event in the Nigerian literary calendar.

Important Information and Conditions for Participation

  • Submission Requirements: Twelve (12) copies of the entry, an e-copy, and evidence of Nigerian citizenship (photocopy of Nigerian passport or National Identity Card) are required.
  • Eligibility: The competition is open to Nigerian writers irrespective of their place of residence. The prize will be awarded solely based on excellence.
  • Publication Date: Books published before 2021 are not eligible.
  • Exclusions: No entry from members of the Advisory Board, Panel of Judges, and their families, as well as staff of Nigeria LNG Limited and their families, will be accepted.
